Fandation for Fan Platforms

A new generation of tools is powering innovative connections between artists and their fans.

One of the biggest drivers of this movement is artists’ desire to “own” their fan data. Everyone understands how valuable data is and artists don’t want to cede control of that value to third parties whose incentives don’t always align.

But there’s a problem. Fan platforms are leaning into the demand and marketing their tools on the idea of artists controlling their fan data. However, artists don’t have their own privacy policies or terms to cover data collection so fan platforms use their own.

The result? Artists believe they control their fan data, and may have day-to-day control of their fan data, but they don’t really control it — not legally. Sharing data with artists may violate contractual terms and/or privacy laws such as TCPA, CASL, or GDPR.

This also means platforms are taking on the role of legal “sender” and with it legal risk that shouldn’t be theirs.

These issues don’t have to be messy. Fandation can help fan platforms build with clarity, legal certainty, and artist trust.
